Ben Pharr's home on the web

About movl.net

movl.net is my personal web site. Why didn't I use something like benpharr.com? Well, that seemed kind of lame to me. (I owned that domain name at one time, but I was never happy with it.) I would have been happy with pharr.com or bnp.com (BNP being my initials), but they were already taken.

So why did I decide on movl.net? Well, a good domain name is hard to find these days. I wanted it to be relatively short and have some sort of meaning. In addition to the ones mentioned above I tried characters and geographical locations from J.R.R Tolkien's books, all sorts of foreign words that mean "eagle" (I'm an Eagle scout and eagles play a prominent role in Tolkien's books), and several other things. They were all taken.

So what is a movl? movl is the most commonly used instruction mnemonic in IA-32 assembly language. As an undergraduate I took a class in IA-32 assembly, and later, I was able to teach the class as a staff member.

Yes, okay, it's a little obscure, but I think it's kind of cool. (I've always had a strange idea of what is cool.) These days it's hard to find an available four-character domain name that has any sort of meaning.
