We all made it home from the hospital before noon yesterday. Everyone is still doing great. In fact, Cassie is at Wal-Mart as I type. Liam is laying on the bed behind me, snoozing away.
I took 374 pictures while at the hospital. I managed to weed those down to 64 good, mostly non-redundant ones, and I’ve posted them on my Zenfolio page. There is definitely still some redundancy, but keep in mind that my primary audience here is grandmothers, and they don’t seem to mind.
Before I go any further, we really appreciate everyone who visited, called, emailed, or commented on the blog post. It’s great to count all of you as friends, even if we don’t get to see some of you very often.
As you can see in the pictures, Liam has a respectable head of dark hair. I was blond when I was born, so that most likely comes from Cassie. He also has Cassie’s distinctive “chin dimple” as well as her cheek dimples when he is sitting just right. He also has very long fingers and toes. He’s a little lighter (4 oz.) and a little shorter (3/4″) than Luke was, but Luke was 2 days late and Liam was 8 days early, so we’ll give him some time to catch up.
Liam wasn’t quite as alert as Luke was during his first few days (Luke’s hospital pictures), but again, Luke had a few more days to develop. However, he’s starting to take in his surroundings a little more. This afternoon he stayed awake for close to two hours after a bottle.
While we were in the hospital we took advantage of the nursery. When Luke was born we wanted him in our room the whole time. We learned our lesson. This time, Liam slept in the nursery. We knew we’d need our rest.
Luke is slowly warming up to his little brother. Today he started sticking his hand about a foot from Liam’s face and waving at him. (He’s become very fond of waving at everyone lately.) He also tried to get in his bouncer with him a couple of times. We got out our spare bouncer so Luke could sit next to him. Pictures of that are forthcoming.
Luke is a strong little kid, and I have no doubt he could hurt Liam, whether intentionally or not. That means we can’t leave Liam lying around unsupervised, even for a moment, unless Luke is in another part of the house.
As I mentioned, Luke made lots of friends at the hospital. In particular, there was Dalton, age 7, whose sister was having a baby. Things weren’t moving along too fast, so he and his family were in the 4th floor waiting room Thursday and Friday. My mom took Luke down there pretty often when Cassie’s room got too small for all of us. Luke and Dalton got to be big buddies over the course of two days. It was quite amusing to see a 14 month old running around having fun with a 7 year old. Hopefully he’ll make friends just as quickly when he gets older. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of him playing with Dalton.
So now we’re setting about the task of trying to figure out how to take care of two little boys still in diapers. Luckily, we’re going to have some good help for the next couple of weeks, but after that we’ll be on our own. It should be interesting.
