The other day I ran up on this map of the Middle East. You have to drag the name of the country onto its place on the map. I did okay on my first try, but not as well as I would have hoped. Mauritania? Isn’t that an island? Or is that Mauritius? Mali? Isn’t that somewhere in Africa? Kyrgyzstan? Forget about it.
Of course, now I know where all of them are. How did you do? Let me know in the comments.
I didn’t do so well. There were only a few countries that I could easily place, and then a few more that I could place based on those, but then the others were mostly educated guesses (a lot of incorrect guesses, too). e.g. The “stans” are clustered, UAE is probably on the gulf, etc. All in all, not an impressive showing for me.
By the way, here’s a similar game for Europe.

This one’s a bit harder, because it provides the name, and you have to select, rather than being able to place from a list, and thus benefiting from both the process of elimination and cued recall.
Ouch, that was humbling. I scored 43% the first go around and 77% the second time.
Yeah. It’s kind of mean. Since it keeps up with how many you got right/wrong, it’s also a lot harder to pretend that you did well. :) I didn’t do great, either. I don’t remember what my actual score was the first time. I just redid it and still only got 62%. :\ Too many little countries.
I cheated and had a look at Google Maps in between my first and second try.
